mash-upQuestion: Of which French Baroque composer was it said: “Happy be ‘Composer X’ whose fertile pen can give birth without pain to a whole new book or piece of music every month!”

Read on for the answer.

We’ve had a great few rehearsals working way through this interesting and rich repertoire.  It is a wonderful program of which we are very proud.  We hope you can join us this coming Sunday.

Answer: Born in the province of Lorraine, Joseph Bodin de Boismortier moved to Paris with his wife in 1724.  There began his somewhat prodigious career as a composer.  In 1780, the music theorist Jean-Benjamin de la Bord wrote: “Happy be Boismortier whose fertile pen can give birth without pain to a whole new book of piece or music every month.”

To those critical of his undoubted fecundity Boismortier would simply answer: “I am earning money!”
