Concert 1 – Rameau

Concert 12014 Concerts

Building on our deep foundations in the music of Marais and the French Baroque, in 2014 we are continuing to “re-imagine” the viola da gamba with new works, new collaborations and a new instrument: the electric viola da gamba!

Concert 1 – Rameau

Directed by Jennifer Eriksson

Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764) was both a master-composer and an influential music theoretician.   A contemporary of Marais, Rameau was one of the greatest French composers of all time and highly esteemed during his life by JS Bach and other luminaries.   In celebration of the 250th anniversary of Rameau’s death we present a selection of his works including his famous Pièces de clavecin en concerts for harpsichord, violin and viola da gamba, two cantatas and a new piece for viola da gamba by Alice Chance.
