Hi to everyone,

It’ s been a busy few weeks for The Marais Project and our sister electric viola da gamba group, Elysian Fields.

The Marais Project – new CD and second concert for 2017
Producer Llew Kiek and I recently finished editing our latest Marais Project CD and we are now moving onto mixing and mastering. The track list is diverse and features a suite I absolutely love by Louis de Caix d’Hervelois, some Marais and two pieces we commissioned, one by Paul Cutlan and another by Llew and Mara Kiek.  There is also a Swedish folk tune arranged by Tommie Andersson.  I will keep you up to date with release logistics over the coming weeks.

Our next Marais Project concert takes place on July 16 at The Independent.  It is a collaboration with The Muffat Collective.  We will be presenting some great music for strings and viola da gamba by Telemann – yes, the violin family meets the viol family!   It’s very rare this music is done in Australia and we are very proud to put this program together with the very fine musicians from The Muffat Collective whose members include baroque violinist, Matthew Greco, and harpsichordist, Anthony Abouhamad.  Tickets can be purchased here

Elysian Fields – next appearance by Australia’s only electric viola da gamba ensemble
Quite a few people attended the joint Marais Project/Elysian Fields concert in late January where for the first time in Australia, acoustic and electric viola da gamba ensembles were programmed at the same event.  I really appreciated the positive feedback on both groups and the openness our early music supporters had to the jazz/improvised repertoire we are exploring with Elysian Fields.

We have an Elysian Fields performance coming up on May 11 at the fabulous Sydney music venue, Foundry616 in Sydney.  Over recent years it has become one of the premiere presenters of quality jazz and improvised music, world music and much more.  If you’ve not been to Foundry why not come along, have a meal and hear us play?  We will be premiering a new song cycle by the fabulous jazz pianist and composer, Matt McMahon.  Tickets can be found here.

Elysian Fields’ first CD – support opportunity

Over several years we have created a whole new repertoire for Elysian Fields, most of it original music by group members including myself.  We are now in the position to record Australia’s FIRST electric viola da gamba CD which will also be one of the few recordings of its kind in the world.  We do need funding support for this and in a few weeks we will launch a tax deductible appeal through the Australian Cultural Fund.  More details are to come, click here to listen to Elysian Fields.

Best wishes,

Jenny Eriksson
